Domi Aouad More about Domi
Domi joined our team here at Beacon Hill in January 2015. She is a graduate of Grand Valley State University with a B.S. degree in Clinical Exercise Science. Her passion and enthusiasm for health and wellness has impacted our entire campus as she brings fitness classes and wellness programs to all residents and employees. Always greeting you with a smile, Domi's goal is to make fitness fun and enjoyable for all! In her free time she enjoys spending time with family and friends, playing any type of sport, volunteering, trying new foods especially pizzas, and going for walks.
Rob Bennett More about Rob
Community Services Coordinator
Rob spent the past 20 years managing logistics for both a chemical and a building product manufacturer. After the housing bubble burst in 2008, he returned to college to complete his undergrad degree. While at college, he began working part-time at Beacon Hill at Eastgate on weekends and quickly developed a passion for both the work and the people. Shortly after the completion of his degree in December of 2012, Rob had the opportunity to serve the residents of Beacon Hill at Eastgate in the role of Community Services Manager. Rob lives in Walker with his wife and two children.
Lindsey Borek More about Lindsey

Lindsey joined the team at Beacon Hill at Eastgate in February 2010. From the Marketing office, to the Concierge desk to the President's office, Lindsey has brought a passion for customer service, hospitality, fun and creativity to the population of seniors she works with on a daily basis. Lindsey graduated from Ferris State University with a B.S. in Visual Communications degree and has built her career in marketing and graphic design positions as well as customer service. She lives in East Grand Rapids and enjoys spending time her family, live music, camping, MSU sports, photography and the beach.
Amanda Daggett More about Amanda
Amanda Daggett, RN, RAC-CT, is Director of Nursing at Beacon Hill at Eastgate. Her primary role is to oversee Clinical Processes throughout the Mary and Martha Center as well as Clinical Consulting for Beacon Hill's independent living population. Amanda completed her RN degree at Grand Rapids Community College, and has been working in geriatrics since 2009.
In 2011, Amanda completed her certification in Resident Assessment Coordination through American Nurse Association of Nurse Assessment Coordination.
Joy Dornbos More about Joy
Joy Dornbos joined Beacon Hill at Eastgate as a Volunteer Coordinator in 2005. She has also been on the board of Volunteer Management of Western Michigan for 7 years serving in various capacities and as President in 2000-2010. Before coming to Beacon Hill at Eastgate, Joy worked as a Teacher for 9 years and supervised volunteers. Joy graduated from Calvin College with BA in education. She is responsible for managing the Volunteer Department which provides recruitment, training, and placement of our volunteers. Our volunteers are given the opportunity to learn new skills and engage in their community. Because Joy is passionate about volunteering, she also volunteers at 3 different organizations in the Grand Rapids area.

Ann Flynn More about Ann
Ann joined the Beacon Hill at Eastgate sales team in 2010, bringing with her a vast array of experience working with seniors and their families. In 2013, Ann began working at the Mary and Martha Center as well in a sales and marketing capacity focusing on assisted living, memory support, and supporting residents should they require a higher level of care.
It is important to Ann to be of support, and to be a resource to the families she serves.
Ann has a BS in Public Relations and Communications from Western Michigan University. In her free time, Ann enjoys traveling, attending her children's sporting events, and being with family.
Laurie Freshour More about Laurie
Laurie has been a member of the sales and marketing efforts for Beacon Hill at Eastgate since 2006. She was the lead sales representative from 2006 2007. In January 2008 Laurie assumed the role of Marketing Director. Under her direction the 85% pre-sales requirement was met in spring of 2009, construction was completed and the community opened in 2010. She continues to manage the ongoing sales and marketing efforts for independent living at Beacon Hill at Eastgate.
In addition to her seven years of service in the retirement industry, Laurie's successful career path included sales management for Scott Paper Company and Georgia Pacific. She earned her B.B.A. in marketing and management from Grand Valley State University. Laurie also completed education in the field of gerontology by achieving her CASP (Certified Aging Services Professional) from the University of North Texas and a Certification in Gerontology from Grand Rapids Community College.
Cynthia Johnson More about Cynthia
Cynthia embraces her roles of hospitality and service at BHE. Her enthusiasm for this community began while the building was under construction and she still delights in the architecture and elegant surroundings. Her fellow staff members, as well as the residents, make BHE a warm and encouraging place to be.
She studied Interior Design and Business at Eastern Michigan University before marrying her high school sweetheart and starting her family. Her adult daughters are some of her favorite people. She is a member of Redeemer Covenant Church, enjoys flower gardening, perusing recipes, and eating homemade bread.
Though not a native, Cynthia loves Michigan and believes the Pure Michigan ads accurately portray our state as the one of the most beautiful places on earth.
April Schaab More about April
April joined the Beacon Hill at Eastgate team in February of 2006 as Dining Director, bringing with her a strong background in Hospitality Management. Most recently April has taken on the role of Operations Director and obtained her License in Nursing Home Administration. April's degree in Hospitality Management from the Secchia College of Culinary Arts has enabled her to focus her skills on developing a hospitality and clinical care model. April leads a strong crew of professionals, who focus on giving residents high quality care and lifestyle. April resides in Grand Rapids with her husband and two children, enjoys spending time outdoors, running, and all things MSU.
Rich Verkaik More about Rich
Pastor Richard Verkaik has been the Chaplain at Beacon Hill since 2010. He is a native of Grand Rapids graduating from Calvin College with a degree in Secondary Education in 1975. After 20 years of teaching youth he returned to school graduating with a Masters of Divinity from Western Theological School in 1989 majoring in Pastoral Care. After a year of post graduate work at Pine Rest Christian Hospital he served three churches before coming to Beacon Hill. He loves the joy and challenge of journeying with people through the seasons of life encouraging them in God's love and care for them. He serves all of the residents of Beacon Hill offering bible studies, chapel services, special events and personal care. He especially enjoys of diversity of faith journeys represented at Beacon Hill facilitating conversation and appreciation for each expression of faith.
Pastor Rich has been married to his wife Ginny for 40 years and finds great joy in sharing the lives of his three sons, daughter-in-laws and four granddaughters. He enjoys reading, the beach, traveling to new places and University of Michigan athletics.
